Written by J Shamsul, Friday, March 28, 2008 | 2

Revision 3

Gone were the days where television used to have good contents. When Astro, had TechTV on, I thought that they had made a channel with shows tailored specifically to me.

Then the G4/TechTV merger / acquisition thing happened and it all when downhill afterwords. The channel is no longer on Astro. I haven’t watch much of anything from Astro ever since then. I got all I need on the Internet thanks to media companies like Revision3 and others.

Revision3 is one of the few media companies that truly gets it. Born from the internet, designed to cater for the internet crowd, an ever growing on-demand generation. Revision3 is not YouTube, it is an actual TV network, producing its own original broadcast quality shows made for the web.

Robots, this will be a regular topic here. Hollywood has made it obvious that robots will one day take over the world. They (the robots) will be all friendly, cute and helpful at first before they initiate their master plan of world domination and kill us all.

Anyway, this cute little robot called ApriPoko developed by folks at Toshiba is a talking robot that also functions as a voice-operated universal remote control for multiple home appliances. It is a prototype and still in development and testing phase.

Nine Inch Nails is doing what artists in the music industry should be doing as their distribution model for years. Nine Inch Nails are one of the few music artists comfortable being on the Internet. Most music artists and their record label companies generally fears the Internet and have being fighting a crusade against it being a distribution medium.

Trent Reznor, the person most people blamed for the web shenanigans Nine Inch Nails have being causing on the Internet lately, have been vocal about his thoughts on record companies and their relationship with musicians. He has been experimenting with alternative methods of getting Nine Inch Nails’ music out directly to its fans, most of the time it involved the use of the Internet.

Here is to majoritarianism and a divided Malaysia

Written by J Shamsul, Sunday, March 9, 2008 | 1

Election 1 Lomo

Yesterday, many Malaysian go out and cast their votes on who they choose to represent their voice on the Malaysian Government. Majority of the population will decide the future of the country and the minority would just have to respect the majority’s decision. At least that is what they say.

I however, didn’t participated in this parliamentary election process.

I choose not to vote because I am against majoritarianism. Against the traditional political philosophy which asserts that a majority of the population is entitled to certain degree of primacy in society, and has the right to make decisions that affect the society.

Yahoo!’s Digg clone buzz

Written by J Shamsul, Sunday, March 2, 2008 | 0

Yahoo Buzz

Things are very democratic lately. With the elections proceedings (U.S elections and the upcoming Malaysia Parliamentary elections) everybody feels the need to vote.

Yahoo! recently launches Yahoo Buzz, a Digg.com like website. Yahoo’s approaches to this is a little bit different from Digg.com’s concept. Users vote on stories from pre-approved news publishers to push them up. If on Digg.com you ‘digg’ a story up and ‘bury’ a story down on Yahoo Buzz you ‘buzz up’ a story and ‘buzz down’.
