Things are very democratic lately. With the elections proceedings (U.S elections and the upcoming Malaysia Parliamentary elections) everybody feels the need to vote.
Yahoo! recently launches Yahoo Buzz, a Digg.com like website. Yahoo’s approaches to this is a little bit different from Digg.com’s concept. Users vote on stories from pre-approved news publishers to push them up. If on Digg.com you ‘digg’ a story up and ‘bury’ a story down on Yahoo Buzz you ‘buzz up’ a story and ‘buzz down’.
Stories hotness is not determine solely on user votes. Yahoo is also looking at their search engine logs to determine which stories are hot and breaking news.
Unlike Digg.com there is not user comments on stories at least I didn’t see any.
However there is something to get excited about Yahoo Buzz. Everyday a few of the popular buzzed stories will also be featured on the Yahoo home page. There are tons of traffic on Yahoo hope page then other web portal on the net.
This is not the first time Yahoo had experimented with such concept. Yahoo Suggestion Board is a service which Yahoo launched last year. Users could suggest features on Yahoo products and vote on them.
Yahoo is not the first large company that is experimenting with such concept. AOL relaunched its Netscape portal with Digg-like features some time ago.
