Written by J Shamsul, Friday, June 20, 2008 | 0

Abandon ship! Things are getting worst at Yahoo, many of their talented top exec are turning in their purple badge. Like the scene from Titanic, it’s crew are all jumping off, as the ship sinks together with its passengers.

At first, this doesn’t concern me much. I almost never go to the Yahoo homepage. I have not logged into my Yahoo Mail account in ages. I don’t get my news from Yahoo News.

However there are three Yahoo products which I use quite often, the Yahoo Messenger and two of them is a web service that Yahoo had just acquired, Flickr and Del.icio.us. Actually I use Adium, just that most of the people I know are on Yahoo Messenger.

Media Temple introduced OSX Leopard Server on VPS

Written by J Shamsul, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 | 0

I do most of my work on Apple Mac OS X Leopard. Most of the time I’ll end up deploying it on some kind of Linux/Unix based server. I’ve always drooled looking at OS X Leopard Server and wonder how it would be like working on it.

To have a OS X Leopard Server running on a shiny Xserve is beyond my budget or any small businesses. Not to mention the cost of co-lo service on data centers.

Not anymore, Media Temple had announced the start of private-beta period for its latest line of hosting solution, the (xv) Xserve-Virtual. They are calling this “the world’s first VPS Leopard Server”.

Written by J Shamsul, Friday, June 13, 2008 | 0

Yahoogoogle 1 The Microsoft and Yahoo! deal is off. It’s water under the bridge living Microsoft with a disappointing note and Yahoo’s stocks plunging down. Top Yahoo executives leaving the company.

All that aside Yahoo and Google had announced a non-exclusive advertising service agreement where Yahoo could use Google’s advertising services in Yahoo’s web assets in U.S. and Canada. This gives Yahoo access to use Google’s Adsense / Adwords services throughout their site. Aspect to see Google Adsense in Yahoo’s search result pages some time soon.

In addition to that, both Yahoo and Google will work on enable interoperability between instant messaging service of both companies. This will result on a better broader online communication services. GTalk isn’t doing that well so this is a good thing for Google. I understand that innocent people die due to natural disaster. I understand that natural disaster happens due to the effect and consequences to the environment.

I understand that innocent people die as collateral damage in conflict zones and war. I understand that this happened when politics and diplomatics ways doesn’t work. I understand that innocent people die when being rob. I understand that some people due to the circumstances feels that they are less fortunate then others. In order for them to survive, they would do anything including hurting other people.

Rock on Rave: Day two report

Written by J Shamsul, Monday, June 9, 2008 | 0

Rockonrave

This is a follow up on Rock on Rave, as posted yesterday. The second day of Rock on Rave was much better then the day before. This time they started on time but the crowd wasn’t. I thought I was early, there are more ‘security’ then fans. I wasn’t early because Bunkface was playing.

Apparently I bring my camera but not its battery. Silly, I know. Fortunately I live near by, so it was much of a problem. When back, had lunch at Little Penang, then back to the action.

The Gmail team takes good care of the look and feel of the whole app. Even adding a ‘delete’ button is a big deal for them. So to rollout new features they are taking a different approach.
