Mass Exodus from Yahoo.

Mass Exodus from Yahoo.

Abandon ship! Things are getting worst at Yahoo, many of their talented top exec are turning in their purple badge. Like the scene from Titanic, it’s crew are all jumping off, as the ship sinks together with its passengers.

At first, this doesn’t concern me much. I almost never go to the Yahoo homepage. I have not logged into my Yahoo Mail account in ages. I don’t get my news from Yahoo News.

However there are three Yahoo products which I use quite often, the Yahoo Messenger and two of them is a web service that Yahoo had just acquired, Flickr and Del.icio.us. Actually I use Adium, just that most of the people I know are on Yahoo Messenger.

First it was the news about Flickr founders, husband and wife team, Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield leaving Yahoo. Flickr has to be one of the best Yahoo purchase ever, with strong community and a solid brand name. But with both the co-founders not around to drive the product forward, will Flickr lose its flare?

I’ve always been a fan of Flickr. It is not just a place for me to upload and share my photos, I sometime spend hours looking at other people’s photos. Flickr does a good job in organizing the photos on its site.

Then Joshua Schachter founder of Del.icio.us resigns from Yahoo. Del.icio.us was the first social bookmarking web service I use. I tried a few others but then always find myself going back to Del.icio.us.

If this trend keeps up Yahoo might become an ‘Altavista’. I hate to see Yahoo go as Yahoo was my first introduction to the Internet.
