Digg.com is a social news website. People submit stories and other user ‘votes’ by either giving it a ‘digg’ or ‘bury’ for stories to either rise to the front page or bury forever in the hall of shame. The content of its website are moderated by its community.

Users could also comment and discuss on the story submitted. Other users then could also digg and bury comments. It’s a little bit advance then your 4chan or BBS type forum and the comment sometime are more hilarious then what you got on 4chan.

I spend a lot of my time on Digg and it is not because of the Snorgtees and Busted tee ads on Digg, no matter how cute. The Digg community sometime could be the most cynical people on the interweb. Unlike YouTube’s comment which is just plain rule and tasteless, Digg’s commenters are rule but in a very funny way.

Here is a little anecdote, one example to give you some idea of how it is on Digg, for those who are not familiar with Digg.

Malaysia Airlines blog

Written by J Shamsul, Monday, July 28, 2008 | 5

A while back I mentioned Tenaga National Berhad’s corporate blog. Today someone had brought to my attention of yet another local big blue chip corporate company, embracing blogs as an outlet to reach the people, also known as their potential customers. The company is Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and the blog is at malaysiaairlinesblog.com.

The blog has a more layback feel then the previously mentioned Tenaga National Berhad’s blog which to me it feels like a press release write-up, however it does give you some insights on the power industry.

“Living Malaysian Hospitality – Eating, Breathing, Sleeping MH”, is the name for the employee advocates’ Malaysia Airlines blog. Apart from the obvious reason, which is pushing sales, the blog aims to provide the public with a better understanding of the organization’s changing work culture.

Tiny Ghosts

Written by J Shamsul, Friday, July 25, 2008 | 1

Can you construct an entire story in just two sentences? That is what the author of Tiny Ghost tries to do on the website. With the help of images, mostly photographs, a whole story could be told in just two sentences.

Tiny Ghost is not your ordinary web comic, it do not even claim to be one. In fact it does not sees itself as a comic at all. I think itelf is having a hard time figuring out what it really is.

Each entry shows two pictures side by side and each picture has a one sentence caption. With just that, a whole story is been created. Each story so compelling that, I’ve lost a whole day of productivity in the office, I was going through each story on Tiny Ghosts.

Knol, Google’s take on Wikipedia

Written by J Shamsul, Thursday, July 24, 2008 | 0

Earlier to day, Google launches Knol, a unit of knowledge. In one sentence, a knol is an authoritative article about a specific topic. Conceptually it is very similar to Wikipedia, as it is yet another platform for sharing articles about specific topics.

Unlike Wikipedia, Knol holds authors accountable for the articles they write. Each articles are known as a ‘knol’. Knol authors take credit for their writing by providing their credentials to identify him or herself. This is done by disclosing credit card number, phone number or anything that can be use to validate real names.

Each articles are either created by a single author or a team of author collaborating. Other users can submit changes, but they have to be approved by the article’s original authors, before any changes available to the public. It’s a more moderated Wikipedia.

The Dark Knight

Written by J Shamsul, Thursday, July 24, 2008 | 1

Batman Begins was one of the best superhero movies coming form DC based comic. However its sequel, The Dark Knight is an insanely great movie by itself.

This time it is not an origin movie. They already established Batman’s origin on Batman Begins, with The Dark Knight you jumped right into the action.

In The Dark Knight, Batman raises the stakes in his war against organize crime and corruption. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent the three of them set their plan in motion in cleaning up Gotham city of crime lords. All went well until The Joker makes his appearance and the madness begins.

One thing for sure, The Joker stole this movie from Batman. This movie could easily be The Joker’s movie. Batman, with all his fancy high-tech gadgets are made to feel like a secondary character.

More power to the Rakyat

Written by J Shamsul, Monday, July 21, 2008 | 4

I’m not into any of these movement by the so called ‘rakyat’. I normally don’t sign on any partition created by these so called ‘rakyat’.

I stayed away from any blogger movement that has strong political scent. You won’t see me putting up the silly “Bloggers Unite. No Fear” logo on my blog. Also I don’t give a damn about those group of silly bloggers who photoshop themselves to some silly movie poster thinking they are some kind of hero. (take a look at Kickdefella blog’s sidebar, it’s hilarious)

However this is one movement I can not ignore. One partition I’ve to sign. One logo I’ve to put up. This time I say more power to the rakyat. It’s not about Anwar nor is it about fuel price. It is something bigger and much more important. I urge all the rakyat to sign up.

Meet Uncle Hussain

Written by J Shamsul, Friday, July 18, 2008 | 4

Eight years ago nobody cares who uncle Hussain was. Now everybody wants to Meet Uncle Hussain. Undoubtably one of Malaysia’s top rising acts in the local indie scene, Meet Uncle Hussain consist of Lan on vocals and guitar, Taja on guitar, Afatt on Bass and Kudux on drums.

Meet Uncle Hussain themselves are not new to the indie scene, but had recently hitched a ride on the fame train. Their big break happened when two of their songs were picked up to be featured in a hit teen TV series, K.A.M.I.

Meet Uncle Hussain is one of those bands that sounds good in recording, but sounds even better when performing live. You can see that clearly this band enjoys performing live.

Political debate on TV great spot for advertising

Written by J Shamsul, Thursday, July 17, 2008 | 0

Fuel Price Banner 2Today, the day after the live debate between opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, everybody seems to be talking about it. It’s a hot conversation during breakfast, it’s the conversation around the office water cooler, it’s the conversation during lunch.

It’s as if the whole nation on that night was watching the live show. This is bigger then Akedemi Fantasia. Little children was ‘shhh’ so that their parents can hear these politicians debate. I don’t think even the Euro 2008 finals get this much attention.

I did not plan to watch the debate as I got other thing to do, but I keep getting Tweets about the debate. I end up watching it online instead.

Looking at the outcome of the debate, an invisible light bulb above my head just light up. It is a gold mine. It is a prime spot on television. Companies all should go crazy in getting an advertisement spot during the debate. A lot of advertising money could be made here.

Iran’s photoshoped missile test

Written by J Shamsul, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 | 1

Last week, Iran did some missile testing. A photo of the missile firing was made public. The western media pick it up and run with it. The mainstream media uses the above photo in running the news.

However the photoshop savvy Internet people people found something wrong with the picture. Apparently someone had been busy playing with the clone tool. The photo below shows the highlighted area that were clone. Apparently it’s one missile to many.

Here is the original photo. It shows one unsuccessful missile launch.

Get your free Sony VAIO laptop

Written by J Shamsul, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 | 0

Vaiohut

It has come to my attention that some classified Sony’s information were leaked out somewhere back in 2007. The VAIO Advance Technology Center was experimenting in the Parallel Realm Technology, in hoping that one day mankind may benefit from this research.

Unfortunately, there was a minor glitch in the system. Nine parts of the VAIO Advanced Technologies went missing. Some investigation reports are saying that these nine technology are scattered all around the world.

All effort had being put by Sony’s Intelligence Center of Research and Advanced Technology Investigation to get back the missing technology, but time is running out and they are running out of resources. Most of Sony’s secret agents are either still recuperating from the recent Blu-Ray HDDVD wars or are involved in the ongoing PS3 gaming console war.

I was contacted by Sony to help them search for the missing VAIO technologies. It is a less known fact that apart form my day job being a web/php programmer, I sometime freelance as a secret agent and a world class spy. I have worked with secret agencies like S.H.I.E.L.D and CONTROL. This time it was Sony.
