Digg.com is a social news website. People submit stories and other user ‘votes’ by either giving it a ‘digg’ or ‘bury’ for stories to either rise to the front page or bury forever in the hall of shame. The content of its website are moderated by its community.
Users could also comment and discuss on the story submitted. Other users then could also digg and bury comments. It’s a little bit advance then your 4chan or BBS type forum and the comment sometime are more hilarious then what you got on 4chan.
I spend a lot of my time on Digg and it is not because of the Snorgtees and Busted tee ads on Digg, no matter how cute. The Digg community sometime could be the most cynical people on the interweb. Unlike YouTube’s comment which is just plain rule and tasteless, Digg’s commenters are rule but in a very funny way.
Here is a little anecdote, one example to give you some idea of how it is on Digg, for those who are not familiar with Digg.

I was reading a Digg story, Kevin Rose shaves his head for charity. Kavin Rose is Digg’s founder, so any story that got his name on it are sure to get lots of Digg. Yes he is the guy from what was once known as TechTV. If you do not know what TechTV is, I suggest you stop reading.
Back to the topic. While I was going through the comments on that Digg story, I notice one comment that goes: -
“Fuck you, Kevin. Two of my friends died while getting their heads shaven.” by dwninjungleland
This is not the first time I saw such ridicules comment. This must be a meme. Lucky for me some other guy post a reply on that comment asking what is it all about because if I were the one posting that question it will show my ‘noobness’ to other Digg users. They are vicious people this Digg users, they eat noobs for breakfast.
So in order to explain the joke, a Digg user points out a Digg story which actually is about a screenshot of series of comments from another different Digg story. Yes they do this sometimes.

The screenshot submitted was about a Digg story on Virginia Tech Building supercomputer out of 324 Mac Pros. This usually is the typical submitted story links you get on Digg. Most of Digg users are geeks, and they have a strong affection with computers and its hardware.
There is a comment thread that starts with: -
“But, will it run Crysis?” by stridox
A harmless typical response you get from Digg users but it followed by a comment: –
“The real question is, will it keep crazy fanboys from shooting up your school?” by B1663r
That comment got a number of response. One in particular is this: –
“Fuck you. Two of my friends died” by fudged71
His comment was dugged down, and buried by other users. Then another comment was posted by the same guy, this time more emo. Thus, a meme was born.
On the story about the comments on the Virginia Tech, one Digg users responds by posting: -
“Jesus, get over yourself.” by agentiame
Someone response with: -
“He’s Jesus?” by rentmitchum
To that, someone response: -
“LEAVE JESUS ALONE!!!” by J0415
Ala, ‘leave Britney alone’ the YouTube video. Another response adds: -
“Fuck you, two of my friends died with Jesus” by skyshock1
And then you see more comments with “Fuck you, two of my friends died…” so and so.
Digg is always more fun then 4chan. This here is a fine example of the Interweb. A valuable lessons one could from this is that you can’t argue with the Internet and anyone who takes the Internet way too seriously will most definitely end up as a meme. Take for example the crazy Britney fan. Or the Iran photoshop missiles.
This is why I don’t submit any of my blog post to Digg no matter how much traffic it will get me.
