Macross Frontier

This will be a regular topic on Jiboneus.com. This blog is all about things I am passionate about, watching anime and reading manga is one of them. Even though there is a high risk of being labeled as an ‘otaku’, I’ll try to blog about anime and manga from time to time.

I’ve a lot of catching up to do when comes to anime. I’ve just finish watching the first three episode of Macross Frontier, and I am pretty excited for the rest of the series.

I didn’t expect Macross Frontier to live up to its predecessor, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross series and the rest of the Macross saga, so I was surprise of how good it was and I really had enjoy the first three episode.

Could someone please buy me a Canon EOS 50D

Awhile back I got myself an entry level DSLR, it is a Canon EOS 400D. I love it. After playing around with it, reading the manual a couple of time and reading photography tips on the Internet, I can say that I am very much comfortable in handling a DSLR camera now.

I think it is the time for me to go to the next level. I think I am ready. What better then to go for the Canon EOS 50D.

Sure it is still nothing more then a rumor, but according to this Japan’s Canon website, it looks like an announcement of the Canon 50D.

Blogs in protest and other silly things

Apparently web censorship is so bad in Turkey that blogs are shutting themselves down in protest. According to this TechCrunch post, it started with one blog that shuts itself down and put up a single message:-

Bu siteye erişim kendi kararıyla engellenmiştir

which roughly translates to:

The access to this web site is prevented by its owner’s free will.

After that nearly 200 Turkish blogs made the same move in protest. This is to show web surfers what the Internet would look like if the censorship continues unabated.

Now, that is what I call a protest.

Not some silly shenanigans rising or displaying a graphic image of an upside down national flag on their blog.

South Ossetia web coverage

You might have heard news about the conflict started in South Ossetia. Local news channels, sandwiched it in between news of Permatang Pauh elections and the Beijing Olympics.

There are not much coverage by major news agencies else where either.

Other news agencies who covered the event, are painting a picture of Russian’s aggression into Georgia. On the Internet, it’s a whole other story.

Blogging is not a crime, but…

There is an interesting post on TechCrunch about the increasing number of bloggers who had being arrested throughout the years, from 2004 till 2007. Looking at the graph above, taken from Swivle, the trend is going up.

One may think that this sort of thing only happen in countries with oppressive governments such as Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran. However, if you take a look at the uploaded spreadsheet, you’ll see there are bloggers arrested in countries such as Canada, France, Greece and even the U.S.

Forget about all the other TV series. Forget about Dirty Sexy Money, forget about Gossip Girl, who watches Heroes anyway, and how many time do you have to break from prison?

Be on the look out for BBC’s new TV series, House of Saddam. You remember Saddam Hussein right? You know the Iraq elected president who has tons and tons of weapon of mass destruction that he hides somewhere in his country. Apparently they are still looking for it in Iraq, but they hang him anyway.

South Ossetia conflict

On 8th August 2008 most of the world eyes were fixed on Beijing and the summer Olympic games grand opening. News agencies and media all around the world were busy reporting on this event. They had paid big money to cover this event.

Oblivious to most of the world was an ongoing conflict that had risen to almost becoming a full out war. No, it is not U.S. No, it is not the middle east.

South Ossetia, a providence between Russia and the Republic of Georgia saw devastating damages and civilian casualties as military forces from both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Georgia duke it out.

As with every war there are always both side of the story.

iTunes podcast directory not available

Return of Butterfingers

They left us in 2004, leaving us with their album “Selamat Tinggal Dunia“, in English it says “Good Bye World”. Now they are back with an album “Kembali“, a Malay word for “Return”.

In the early days, Butterfingers is the epitome of ’90s indie rock/grunge scene. As a Nirvana fan, it was easy for me to dig Butterfingers’ music. During the 90′s, Butterfingers homegrown ‘Seattle grunge scene’. I was still in my secondary schooling days.

Formed in late 1993, with the line up, Loque (songwriter, guitarist), Emmett (vocals, guitar and lyricist), Kadak (bass) and Kalai (drums) they hit the underground scene with such vengeance, that one could only describe as ‘the stuff of underground legends’. Most of their shows were sold out.

Even though during this time the Seattle grunge scene slowly fading away after the death of Kurt Cobain, and making way for more melodic and less angst bands, but the Malaysian youth were far from over with grunge.

Wanted movie should be made into a game

Just finished watching ‘Wanted‘, the action movie based loosely on the comic book miniseries of the same name by Mark Millar. It stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and some other actors I can’t remember.

The story revolves around a character named Wesley Gibson, who starts out as a god forsaken, disaffected, cube-dwelling, clock-punching drone. His life are nothing but boredom and routine. A similar tone to the movie Fight Club, one of my favorite movie ever.

One day, Wesley was picked up by the sexy foxy woman named Fox. Everything changes. He was introduced to a world of bullet bending super assassin killers, that belonged to a super secret society known as The Fraternity. They then train him to bend bullets, how to kill, how to feel no pain and eventually become one of them.

I wish a sexy Angelina look-alike would pick me up to join her fraternity too, don’t we all?
