iTunes podcast directory not available

Written by J Shamsul, Friday, August 8, 2008 | 14

I am still pretty much annoyed with the fact that iTunes podcast directory are not available for me. I’ve blogged about this over at MyMacBUZZ. I send a message to Apple iTunes support. Interested to see what’s their reply.

Ever since I sign up for an iTunes store account, iTunes store country is Malaysia, I can’t browse the podcast directory. It was fine before. I got this dialog box whenever I try.

Your request could not be completed

The item you’ve requested is not currently available in the Malaysian Store.

I understand that certain parts of the iTunes store like the music, movies and TV shows are not available for the iTunes store on my country due to some weird copyright laws or whatever. I learn to live with it. I know we are not worth the effort.

However podcast has always been free. No? Why is it that the iTunes podcast directory is not available in the Malaysian iTunes store. I think this is a bug, and it should be fixed.

All the podcast that I’ve subscribed to still downloads fine. I just can’t browse the podcast directory to add new podcast. I could manually add podcast feed, but that’s not fun.

UPDATES: A response from Apple suggest that you logout of the Malaysia iTunes store and login to the U.S. iTunes store to subscribe to iTunes. Not the best solution in my opinion.

I’m getting the same thing from the Hong Kong store at the moment “The item you’ve requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong Store.” This is ridiculous!

Regarding the recent comments about the recent block on access to itunes podcast directory; I, also, am very unhappy about this. The error I get here is “The item you’ve requested is currently not in China. But I’m in Hong Kong!

I live in Hong Kong and live off podcasts. In fact, the main reason for my ipod are podcasts. One idea is the itunes team is focusing on the recently released “Genius”, to sell more of Apples products.

I agree that Asia does not seem to be focal to apples overall interests, but there is a serious demographic here that Apple seem to easily overlook.

If anyone has any info to counter this new preference within itunes, so I can get my podcast options back, I can assure you there will be one happy camper in HK.

While this is not the best solution in my opinion, but what you can do is to logout from Hong Kong iTunes store and login to U.S. store to subscribe to podcast. You can than login back to Hong Kong iTunes store, your podcast will still download automatically.

My question is: How to logout from the local itune store and login to the US store? All I could do is to change the country setup from my account information. But it doesn’t work if you don’t have a real credit card billing address in the US. :\

Yes you change countries. You don’t need credit card information for downloading Podcasts.

Hey, guys i have the solution, I used to have the same problem as you because i’m from peru. You need to go the home page of itunes ( just click the icon of a “house” in itunes), and at the end of the webpage says where you store is ubicated, just change it to united states, and that’s all, you don’t need to create an account

You can actually create a mock-up US iTunes store account, which means you can create a credit card-less account. See this page on Apple Support:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this. The Qatar store is the same thing. And when I went home to the Philippines for a vacation, still the same thing. The Middle East and Asia are a big part Apple’s success. They should see to it that podcasts are at least accessible to us.

Hi, you can solve this problem by changing country from Malaysia to United States. It works for me. You still can’t buy songs from iTunes still.
