After a year of concerts, gigs, and parties, I am staying home for this new year eve, writing a blog post. A retrospect of the year that has past.
The year 2008 we see the downfall of mainstream mass media. Bloggers could win elections now. If it is not because of Obama’s strong presence online, Facebook, Twitter and such, I don’t think he would win the U.S. election.
News and coverage of major events are faster and quite accurate on Twitter then on mainstream news agencies. You’ll get more turn out posting your event on Facebook then having it advertise on the radio or television stations.
I think I’ve watched and actually liking more local films this year, 2008 then any other year. Evolusi KL Drift, K.A.M.I The Movie, Budak Kelantan, Los dan Faun are some of my favorites. This is a good sign for the local film industry.
The year 2008 also must have been a good year for local indie artist. The indie scene is booming, and it’s becoming a trend, a brand and becoming mainstream.
Looking at the stats on this blog, almost every day there are people end up on this blog after searching for Yuna, K.A.M.I, Butterfingers, Hujan or Meet Uncle Hussain.
This year, we see more people coming to gigs, more event organizers featuring more home-grown local acts that is not either Mawi or Siti Nurhaliza. Local artist that are not manufactured by large factory conglomerate that runs the mainstream music industry.
There are also a promising increase in traffic to Jiboneus.com and the number of readers. Thank you, keep reading and things will only get better.
Happy New Year to all…
