Slovak Sling is a 15Malaysia short film directed by Woo Ming Jin. It stars Patrick Teoh and Harith Iskandar. It’s a comedic re-enactment of how politician tries to entice another politician to switch party allegiance. A pirates DVD seller watches on as the two politician talked.
This 15Malaysia film doesn’t deal with racial issues or culture differences like most of the other past 15Malaysia short film. On the other hand it deals with yet another issue that has been plaguing Malaysia for a long time, the culture of bribery. The issue has been around for a long time that it has woven itself in our culture.
I was made a mute when someone asked me, “Tell me what agency in Malaysia that isn’t corrupt.” Maybe it’s not true, and most government agencies are not corrupt but the thing is that the government has been getting a lot of bad rap all this time and it’s embedded in everybody’s mindset that a government, what ever it maybe are, most of the time are corrupted.
In the short film Slovak Sling, we see a pirated DVD seller watching two politician conducting their shady deals in a back alley somewhere. And when the pirated DVD seller was caught, he then tries to do what he had learned just now. If politician do it, why can’t we? Corruption is a decease that spreads.
Watch this funny flick as two comedic veterans doing what they do best.
Also don’t forget to watch the making of Slovak Sling. Can you detect the sarcasm in Harith?
What to you think about ‘the culture of bribery’ in Malaysia? Or is there no such thing?
