Went to watch KAMI the movie during the first day of Raya. After all the boring Raya usual ritual stuff in the morning I went straight to Cineleisure Damansara. Interesting to see everyone with their pretty baju Raya at the movies.

I wanted to write this sooner, but life has other plans for me, and I had to launch MakanByte a food blog. Anyhow, this is my take on the movie.

It was well written and all that I had expected it to be. It was good but not great. I wont be going too detail as I do not want to reveal spoilers for those who haven’t yet watch the movie. And I do recommend you watch this.

KAMI is a local TV mini series that made its debut on 8TV sometime ago and was re-aired recently. It has now gain a small but fast growing cult following among young local teens.

The first thing that got me watching this mini series was the music. My brother caught the series trailer on 8TV, he then record it on his phone and showed it to me. It has this cool wacky music track, it was Meet Uncle Hussain‘s La La La Kerja Lah.

That was enough to grab my interest to watch the show.

The first episode blows my mind away and got me hooked for the rest of the show. When it comes to local Malay TV series, I’m not much of a fan. You can expect the same thing again and again.

KAMI on the other hand feels fresh and doesn’t feel like most of the typical local Malay drama series. I’ve to say that I am quite impress with how the series was written.

“Don’t tell me about the law. The law is anything I write on a scrap of paper.” Saddam Hussein

Forget about all the other TV series. Forget about Dirty Sexy Money, forget about Gossip Girl, who watches Heroes anyway, and how many time do you have to break from prison?

Be on the look out for BBC’s new TV series, House of Saddam. You remember Saddam Hussein right? You know the Iraq elected president who has tons and tons of weapon of mass destruction that he hides somewhere in his country. Apparently they are still looking for it in Iraq, but they hang him anyway.

Just finished watching ‘Wanted‘, the action movie based loosely on the comic book miniseries of the same name by Mark Millar. It stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and some other actors I can’t remember.

The story revolves around a character named Wesley Gibson, who starts out as a god forsaken, disaffected, cube-dwelling, clock-punching drone. His life are nothing but boredom and routine. A similar tone to the movie Fight Club, one of my favorite movie ever.

One day, Wesley was picked up by the sexy foxy woman named Fox. Everything changes. He was introduced to a world of bullet bending super assassin killers, that belonged to a super secret society known as The Fraternity. They then train him to bend bullets, how to kill, how to feel no pain and eventually become one of them.

I wish a sexy Angelina look-alike would pick me up to join her fraternity too, don’t we all?

Batman Begins was one of the best superhero movies coming form DC based comic. However its sequel, The Dark Knight is an insanely great movie by itself.

This time it is not an origin movie. They already established Batman’s origin on Batman Begins, with The Dark Knight you jumped right into the action.

In The Dark Knight, Batman raises the stakes in his war against organize crime and corruption. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent the three of them set their plan in motion in cleaning up Gotham city of crime lords. All went well until The Joker makes his appearance and the madness begins.

One thing for sure, The Joker stole this movie from Batman. This movie could easily be The Joker’s movie. Batman, with all his fancy high-tech gadgets are made to feel like a secondary character.

KLue Urbanscapes, the city’s all-day creative arts festival sounds interesting. It will be held at KLPac (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center). They are labeling it as a “user-generated” creative arts festival where the organizer is taking a step back and letting the the city’s creative leaders run the show.

The organizer is working with various groups, collective and individuals letting them decide on what’s going to happen at Urbanscapes 2008. The general public can also votes to influence on which music acts to be featured.

Creative communities of different fields, music, arts, lifestyle and film will all be together at KLPAC for a whole day of awesome creative artsy fun. The festival will split into several different sections.

Oh Chentaku‘ roughly translate to “Oh My Love” in english with the word ‘cinta‘ spelled the old way. First glance at the band’s name you would have thought that this is some old school, mushy, sentimental, hopeless romantic band. They however, are far form being mushy, they classified their music type as more towards 90s post-hardcore / emo rock.

The band had already played in a number of shows in Malaysian and all around South East Asia, with an Indonesia tour on their schedule. Considering that and the fact that it’s been barely a year since the band was first formed, they looked pretty impressive.

Warning: This movie reviews might or might not contain spoilers. Read it at your own risk.

Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises is the new David Cronenberg movie. You might remember him from other movie he directed such as History of Violence and the classic 1986′s The Fly.

Eastern Promises has completely changed the way I think about the Russian mafia. They made the Italian mafia look like a social club. No doubt, this movie could just become this generation’s ‘Godfather‘.
