This will be a regular topic on Jiboneus.com. This blog is all about things I am passionate about, watching anime and reading manga is one of them. Even though there is a high risk of being labeled as an ‘otaku’, I’ll try to blog about anime and manga from time to time.

I’ve a lot of catching up to do when comes to anime. I’ve just finish watching the first three episode of Macross Frontier, and I am pretty excited for the rest of the series.

I didn’t expect Macross Frontier to live up to its predecessor, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross series and the rest of the Macross saga, so I was surprise of how good it was and I really had enjoy the first three episode.

When I was a little kid after watching Super Dimension Fortress Macross or the Americanize version franchise most are familiar with, Robotech, I thought that being a pilot was the coolest thing ever, especially in space, with a Valkyrie, fighting giant aliens.

Watching the first three episode of Macross Frontier, produces a feeling of pleasure in parts of my brain that are usually stimulated by eating delicious food or engaging in sexual activity, in other words, holy shit that was epic, nothing short of jaw-dropping stuff.

It starts out very cliche with a young spunky girl that works in a restaurant, a very popular singing idol, and a group of air acrobatics performers. They crossed path as the events in the story progress. This sounds familiar, well this is Macross after all.

I don’t like the weakling lead character, Alto, but I hope as the stories progress I will grow to like him. The other female leads are okay but none are as memorable as opposed to Major Misa Hayase (Lisa Hayes in Robotech) or the adorable idol Lynn Minmei, both from Super Dimensional Fortress.

However, when they were attacked, the Skull squadron, a bunch of badass Valkyrie pilots, took off and shows you why you wouldn’t want to be caught in a dogfight with them. They make Roy Focker and the rest of his team look like a bunch of school children.

The action scene in Macross Frontier is awesome. The Valkyrie design remains the same, with a few minor differences. There is a satisfying smile on my face as I saw a Valkyrie in Gerwalk mode, standing while pumping hundreds of rounds of ammunition into the attacking alien. I am glad that this is the case, I think that the Valkyries the coolest mecha ever.

Everything you get from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, is present here in Macross Frontier. From giant transforming robots to apocalyptic battles with tons of swirling missiles to wartime romance and even down to the cheeky bubblegum pop music.

I am expecting Macross Frontier to be a yet another love triangle romance set against the backdrop of epic great space battles. I hope the rest of the episode doesn’t disappoint me. Full report when I’m done.
