RantingsbyMM: Do Malaysians Hate Blacks?

I don’t always comments on other blogs. I am not someone who engage in arguments on the internet. I use my blog to comments on things I read form other blogs.
RantingsbyMM blog by Marina Mahathir, has always been on my feed reader list. Never did paid much attention on her writings, but her recent post “Do Malaysian Hate Blacks?” caught my interest.
The blog post refers to an article on Malay Mail, Victims of Hate by Teoh El Sen and Aizat Sharif on September 23, 2008.
Blogs in protest and other silly things

Apparently web censorship is so bad in Turkey that blogs are shutting themselves down in protest. According to this TechCrunch post, it started with one blog that shuts itself down and put up a single message:-
Bu siteye erişim kendi kararıyla engellenmiştir
which roughly translates to:
The access to this web site is prevented by its owner’s free will.
After that nearly 200 Turkish blogs made the same move in protest. This is to show web surfers what the Internet would look like if the censorship continues unabated.
Now, that is what I call a protest.
Not some silly shenanigans rising or displaying a graphic image of an upside down national flag on their blog.
Blogging is not a crime, but…

There is an interesting post on TechCrunch about the increasing number of bloggers who had being arrested throughout the years, from 2004 till 2007. Looking at the graph above, taken from Swivle, the trend is going up.
One may think that this sort of thing only happen in countries with oppressive governments such as Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran. However, if you take a look at the uploaded spreadsheet, you’ll see there are bloggers arrested in countries such as Canada, France, Greece and even the U.S.
Malaysia Airlines blog

A while back I mentioned Tenaga National Berhad’s corporate blog. Today someone had brought to my attention of yet another local big blue chip corporate company, embracing blogs as an outlet to reach the people, also known as their potential customers. The company is Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and the blog is at malaysiaairlinesblog.com.
The blog has a more layback feel then the previously mentioned Tenaga National Berhad’s blog which to me it feels like a press release write-up, however it does give you some insights on the power industry.
“Living Malaysian Hospitality – Eating, Breathing, Sleeping MH”, is the name for the employee advocates’ Malaysia Airlines blog. Apart from the obvious reason, which is pushing sales, the blog aims to provide the public with a better understanding of the organization’s changing work culture.
More power to the Rakyat

I’m not into any of these movement by the so called ‘rakyat’. I normally don’t sign on any partition created by these so called ‘rakyat’.
I stayed away from any blogger movement that has strong political scent. You won’t see me putting up the silly “Bloggers Unite. No Fear” logo on my blog. Also I don’t give a damn about those group of silly bloggers who photoshop themselves to some silly movie poster thinking they are some kind of hero. (take a look at Kickdefella blog’s sidebar, it’s hilarious)
However this is one movement I can not ignore. One partition I’ve to sign. One logo I’ve to put up. This time I say more power to the rakyat. It’s not about Anwar nor is it about fuel price. It is something bigger and much more important. I urge all the rakyat to sign up.
Iran’s photoshoped missile test

Last week, Iran did some missile testing. A photo of the missile firing was made public. The western media pick it up and run with it. The mainstream media uses the above photo in running the news.
However the photoshop savvy Internet people people found something wrong with the picture. Apparently someone had been busy playing with the clone tool. The photo below shows the highlighted area that were clone. Apparently it’s one missile to many.

Here is the original photo. It shows one unsuccessful missile launch.

Of cause the Internet people being such a geek had photoshoped more missile launch photos. Here are some that I’ve found.
Get your free Sony VAIO laptop

It has come to my attention that some classified Sony’s information were leaked out somewhere back in 2007. The VAIO Advance Technology Center was experimenting in the Parallel Realm Technology, in hoping that one day mankind may benefit from this research.
Unfortunately, there was a minor glitch in the system. Nine parts of the VAIO Advanced Technologies went missing. Some investigation reports are saying that these nine technology are scattered all around the world.
All effort had being put by Sony’s Intelligence Center of Research and Advanced Technology Investigation to get back the missing technology, but time is running out and they are running out of resources. Most of Sony’s secret agents are either still recuperating from the recent Blu-Ray HDDVD wars or are involved in the ongoing PS3 gaming console war.
I was contacted by Sony to help them search for the missing VAIO technologies. It is a less known fact that apart form my day job being a web/php programmer, I sometime freelance as a secret agent and a world class spy. I have worked with secret agencies like S.H.I.E.L.D and CONTROL. This time it was Sony.

Congratulation to Tun Dr M

The M is for ‘Millions‘. That is the number of visitors chedet.com is pulling. Blogging under his long time pseudo name ‘Che Det’, Malaysia’s retired fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir’s blog, is puling a substantial amount of traffic for a blog that was debuted about only a month ago.
I am trilled to see someone like him embraces blogging, but am disappointed that it is when he is not in office only then realizes this. Maybe it is when one has no control of the mass media that one looks for other alternative to reach the masses.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s blog

A big kudos to Tenaga Nasional Berhad for having an official blog, TNB Talks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first Malaysia big shot corporation that I know of to have something resembling a blog.
It might not be your typical run of the mill blog, but if you ever wanted to take a glimpse into our local power industry this would be the place. It’s not something for everybody.
