IpodtouchLast weekend was an iPhone and iPod Touch weekend. People all around the world lined up to buy their new iPhone 3G. By ‘all around the world’ I meant, ‘the countries that Apple is selling its iPhone 3G’. Malaysia not included.

However with the coming of the new iPhone 3G, it also means that new iPhone and iPod Touch firmware is available. I spend the last weekend waiting, upgrade iTunes, waiting, updating my iPod Touch, browsing the iTunes app store, downloading and trying out apps.

Wwdc 2008

It is that time of the year, again. Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, one of the few events where Steve Jobs with his rock star status presents, or should I say, perform his famous keynote.

Developer from all around the world gathered on this conference. This is when Apple showcase new upcoming technologies for its product.

Ipod Touch

“Is that the iPhone?”

“No. It’s just an iPod Touch”

When I meet new people, I store their contacts on the address book on my iPod Touch. People mistakenly thought it is an iPhone.

“Is that a PDA?”

“No it’s just an iPod Touch”

I note down appointments on my iPod Touch using the calendar app. It syncs with iCal when connect it with my Mac. I take notes and create to-do list using the Notes app on my iPod Touch I then mail it back to myself if I want a copy on my Mac. People mistakenly thought it is a PDA device.

“Is that an Internet tablet?”

“No it’s just an iPod Touch”

Whenever there is a wifi signal I can get on, I check my email, surf the web, watch YouTube video and sometime use Google Map to figure out where the hell I am at or where I’m going. People mistakenly thought it is an Internet tablet of some sorts.

Sidekick

In the old days, the mobile industry was a predictable. Companies keep designing new phone, each better then the previous version, nothing revolutionary. Then Apple came in and sort of slapped everyone on the face with its new iPod with GSM phone capabilities, known to many as the iPhone.

Now it seems that everybody wants to get into mobile phones. Google announce its mobile platform OS known as Android. Clever move on Google part by not making a phone but a mobile OS instead. Google is not a hardware company.

Microsoft is not just sitting still hanging on their Windows Mobile either. While the Microsoft $40 billion deal with Yahoo! still hanging, they when shopping for another company. This time they get a mobile phone company Danger Inc. the makes of the T-mobile Sidekick.

Safari on win

Apple is pushing the web browser envelope with their Safari web browser, using the WebKit open source application project since last fall. Safari had grown a lot since it was first introduce as the OSX browser. There is a version of Safari for Windows. It (WebKit), also runs on mobile devices, the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

And the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK might just be based only on Safari, here is why.
