It has finally hit me. Not the fact that AIG one of the big insurance company almost ran out of money. Not the fact that banks in America are also running out of money. Not the fact that Tech companies like Ebay, Yahoo and others are laying off some of its staff, check out TechCrunch’s layoff counter.

The state of America’s economy, this so called “economic downturn” they are talking about had never affected me. As share markets everywhere drop, I had never give any thought about it.

Today however it has finally hit me.

Revision3 is one of my favorite media company, producing shows tailored to the Internet generation. Revision3 is one of the few companies that actually gets it.

It saddens me to hear that the economy downturn has finally affected them. Today I read on its blog, changes to Revision3′s programming. They had to make some tough staffing decisions, and resulted in the cancelation of three great shows form its line up.

The long running Photoshop show, PixelPerfect will no longer be available. I learn a lot from Bert Monroy in PixelPerfect.

Two other shows I subscribe to, popSiren and Internet Superstars are also among the casualties. PopSiren the first show of its kind. A show that offers culture-savvy diva with their weekly hip fix. I’ll miss Heather Frank and Sarah Lane’s music picks on popSiren bites.

Who would have thought that Sarah Lane would be one of them on the layoff list.

Revision3 also had stop their distribution agreement with two other well known Internet show they had recently adopted, Epic Fu and Wine Library. No worries though, these shows could make it on their own. Haven’t heard anything about Hak.5 though.

Although it saddens me to hear about this but I do understand that Revision3 is a business and in times like this they need to focus on their profitable shows. However I would wish they had canned some other shows instead of these three.

On the other hand, I hope everything is fine with the Twit network. I subscribed to several of its shows. I know that each show produced on Twit network are like Leo Laporte’s baby.

One of my favorite video podcast, Epic-FU (formally known as Jetset Show) had joined one of my favorite podcast network, Revision3. After a long hiatus, Epic-FU is back with the usual mix of content covering all aspect of tech, music, and other popular culture both online and offline.

Create by the beautiful Zadi Diaz and some guy, off camera, Epic-Fu is about the things that makes us geek out. Epic-Fu is your manual to the internet.

Epic-FU is a phenomenon by itself. It can live by its own with a strong growing community that they call MIX. By joining Revesion3 it makes both of these community much stronger. I think Revision3 gat the better end of this deal.

Another new family member that expends Rivision3′s network is Wine Library TV. Hosted by an outspoken energetic Gary Vaynerchuk, the shows feature him testing and reviewing wines. Wine Library TV has a respected amount of followers.

Both of this show has its own set of followers, by joining Revision3, they bring along their community to checkout other shows on Revision3 while at the same time, Revision3′s community are introduced to new shows. It’s a win win situation after all.

So who’s next? TikiBarTV?

If you love your money. You are saving for something important maybe. Then may I advice you to not watch The Totally Rad Show of the Revision3 network. Repeat that, do not ever watch The Totally Rad Show.

To do not click on the hyper-link on this post in which will take you to Revision3′s Totally Rad Show page. Don’t think it’s just a harmless page with embedded videos. You might accidentally clicked on the play button. Once you see an episode of the Totally Rad Show, there is no turning back. I can’t help you anymore, nobody can.

The Totally Rad Show is three rad dudes, with nothing better to do. They get abducted by the crew of the starship Alpha-2. They are from the planet Q which due to a space time loop, is stuck in 1982, and must be rescued. Our heros discuss the latest news and give their reviews of games and movies too. Sure hope you are not confused. They swear this is all true, not just the premise to The Totally Rad Show.

In the weekly video podcast, Alex Albrecht, Dan Trachtenbrg and Jeff Cannata talked about all things rad. The show format starts with a rad skit referencing to some movie.

The show is divided in different segments, Movies, Games, Comics and TV. Occasionally they have shorter segments such as “Dan Becomes A Man”. One episode where they have Dan drink an English tea has me literally ROFL.

On the show the three of them discussed and give their reviews on movies, games, comics and TV shows. Ever since I started watching the show, subscribe to it via iTunes, I’ve been spending a large amount of money on all things rad. With their games review, I am now seriously thinking of getting a Sony PS3 and a Sony PSP.

I am now hooked on Marvel Civil War comic series which now leads to Marvel Secret Invasion, thanks to them. With my ever growing Japanese manga collection and my lust for tech gadgets, how could I afford all of this? Import comics are not cheap here.

Furthermore, I like how the show is edited. I like how when reviewing a game, they show the game play at the background with the three of them shrunk at one conner. The same goes with movie reviews. I can see their expression and discussing about it while the movie trailer is playing at the background. Nothing in the show feels scripted, except may be when they mention their sponsors.

Take my advice do not get hook on The Totally Rad Show and save your money. Do not click on this Totally Rad Show link.

Gone were the days where television used to have good contents. When Astro, had TechTV on, I thought that they had made a channel with shows tailored specifically to me.

Then the G4/TechTV merger / acquisition thing happened and it all when downhill afterwords. The channel is no longer on Astro. I haven’t watch much of anything from Astro ever since then. I got all I need on the Internet thanks to media companies like Revision3 and others.

Revision3 is one of the few media companies that truly gets it. Born from the internet, designed to cater for the internet crowd, an ever growing on-demand generation. Revision3 is not YouTube, it is an actual TV network, producing its own original broadcast quality shows made for the web.

It also helps that many people, personalities you know from TechTV, had joined Revision3 doing what they do best, making entertaining tech/geek pop-culture shows.

For me, as what I remembered being a fan of TechTV, it all starts with the little show distributed freely on the Internet, thebroken. This to me might just be the starting point of what now would become now known as Revision3.

Thebroken starts of looking like something of a pet project of Kevin Rose, back then he is known as the ‘Dark Tipper’ on The Screen Savers. It is a show dedicated to the underground technology with hacker mentality that caters to the elite, more like the wannabe 1337. It is not all serious technical hacking stuff on the show, with the mixture of hilarious (intentional and/or not intentional) comedies makes it a very entertaining show to watch. Ramzi rocks!

The best part is, the show is free to download.

I might be wrong, but I think thebroken also had inspired some other awesome shows dedicated to the underground hacker culture such as From The Shadows and Hak.5.

If you look closely, you will see thebroken’s DNA being inherited by some of the popular shows on the Revision 3 network. Thebroken starts with two drunk guys on a couch with beers, Kevin Rose and Dan Huard, talking tech, it’s Diggnation. Thebroken makes stuff and gadgets and sometime blows them up, it’s Systm. Thebroken sometime have computers tips and tricks, it’s Tekzilla. You see where I’m getting at? Thebroken is the grand daddy of Revision3.

There are a lot of shows in variety of topics on Revision3 network. Diggnation is one one of my favorites. Who knew that a show about two drunk guys reading (or tries to read) the top stories on Digg.com and discussing about tech, could be very entertaining. The pairing of Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht fits perfectly for the type of show Diggnation offers.

Can you imagine if you were to pitch this idea of a show where two guys, drunk most of the time, read top stories from a website and talk about tech stuff to one of the big traditional TV network corporation. I don’t think the idea will fly or if you are allowed back to the building. However, just looking at Diggnation’s live shows you could see how popular the show really is.

Diggnation is one of the early first show that Revision3 featured. It stayed with the same format and it is still going strong with live shows at all over the world.

Other Revision3 shows you should check out are Totally Rad Show, Systm, Tekzilla and PixelPerfect. Each of them I plan to write about in upcoming posts. Also check out The Revision3 Gazette to see what’s going on within Revision3 as the cracker jack reporter Sarah Lane reports from within.

Views are being caution to watch with care as these shows are addictive.

Revision3 is not the only media companies that gets it. There are other people producing cool shows for the web. TWiT network, Pixel Corps, Podshow, Next New Networks, and many more. I’ll try to write about them in the upcoming posts too.

For those who feels all of this are new to them you might want to start to get you feet wet in it. It’s time you use your bandwidth for other then porn.
